Jorhat, Dec 26: North East Affected Area Development Society (NEADS), a Jorhat-based grassroots development organization organized a two-day district level consultation on ‘Improving Nutrition in Communities in post-Covid Situation’ here on December 22-23.

The initiative was in compliance with a six-month project titled ‘Sustaining Community-led Nutrition Promotion Models for Women's Nutrition through Systems in Jorhat district’ which is supported by UNICEF. Officials and experts from various line departments like Agriculture, Jorhat Medical College, Assam State Rural livelihood Mission and KVKs shared their experiences and gave recommendations for future course of action. Director, NEADS, Jorhat Girin Chetia explained the importance of consultation and joint ventures to mitigate malnutrition in rural areas. Joint Director, NEADS Tirtha Prasad Saikia, Dieticians from Jorhat Medical College Bhaskor Jyoti Gogoi and Ipshita Phukon shared their experiences of working among communities for reduction of malnutrition. Representatives from ASRLM Jorhat and KVKs while throwing light on the topic stressed on sustainable organic production for reducing malnutrition among communities.

The consultation came up with a roadmap for future action plans to promote nutrition among communities.
