NAMSAI, Apr 25: In an unfortunate incident, a college student was feared to have been drowned in the Noa Dihing River in Namsai on Saturday. Team of 12th BN NDRF and local police swung into action and started the search & rescue operation, however the body is yet to be retrieved.
The deceased identified as Mankai Wangpan (18) a  student of Venerable Uktara Bethany College, Manmow, Namsai  and permanent resident of Zedua village of Longding district, along with two of his colleagues went swimming when the incident occurred.
‘As soon as we received the call from district administration Namsai, a team of NDRF consisting 25 personnel stationed at Dhemaji moved to conduct search and rescue operations. Team reached Namsai late Saturday night  and started search operation at the very first light on Sunday,' informed Inspector 12BN NDRF Rakesh Kumar. Since morning our experts are on the job and is carrying out search operation in all probable locations and will do so till the body is retrieved, added Kumar.

Investigation Officer Mahadevpur Police, V. Kumar informed that the incident occurred around 11am on Saturday last. Search and rescue operations with the help of local divers were initiated since Saturday but the body hasn't been retrieved yet, so a call was made to the NDRF team to assist in the operation with their expertise, he added.
Till the filing of this report, the body hasn't been retrieved. Search & rescue operation was suspended in the evening and will resume with the first light of Monday morning, the NDRF said.
