ITANAGAR, Nov 27: The Chairman of National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) Nand Kumar Sai today called on Governor Brig. (Dr.) B.D. Mishra (Retd.) here at Raj Bhavan and discussed about welfare programmes for the state’s tribal people, particularly the students.
Governor, who has been closely monitoring the education and health sectors of the tribal communities, told the visiting dignitaries to work on developing these two vital areas and requested the NCST Chairman for introduction of more community centric projects and programmes. Emphasising on enhancement of tribal income generation activities for improving their standard of living, he also suggested for introduction of new techniques in agri-horticultural activities and recommended a visit of the state’s farmers and entrepreneurs to Kurukshetra, Haryana to gather knowledge about minimising Jhum or Shifting cultivation. Sharing his interactions will various communities of Arunachal, Governor said that the marginalised Puroik community requires special care and NCST needs to explore ways and means to address the challenges faced by them.  In this regard, he suggested arrangement of special skill development programmes for them and educational provisions for their students, preferably in professional courses being run by other states. Highlighting about bottlenecks that exist in road communication, Governor said that it is a great hurdle in ushering in socio-economic empowerment of tribal communities and requested the NCST Chairman to impress upon the President and Prime Minister for relaxation of norms for construction of roads in Arunachal Pradesh.  

NCST members Harhadbhai Chunnilal Vasava and Hari Krishna Damor, NCST Joint Secretary Konthang Touthang accompanied the Chairman. Social Justice Empowerment and Tribal Affairs (SJETA) Secretary Niharika Rai was also present in the meeting. PRO Raj Bhavan
