ZIRO, Nov 11: Environment & Forest Minister Mama Natung on Thursday visited Ziro Orchid conservation and propagation centre where 70 varieties of Orchids are being conserved and transmitted at Divisional Forest Office (DFO), Hapoli forest division .
Interacting with the officials and staff of the Hapoli forest division, Natung appreciated them for coming up with the idea of Orchid conservation and propagation centre at the office. He said the department should connect with the masses to create more awareness on conservation of wildlife.
Natung suggested the officials take out a day in a week and reach children of various government schools in the district and teach about the wildlife and its importance.
“Along with the help of Gram Panchayat leaders, the officials of DFO can fix a day to teach the students on the importance of wildlife. This will not only educate those students but also help in creating a human chain in dissemination of the information on various efforts made by the department in conservation of wildlife,” he said.
He also assured the gathering that the department will soon promote the staff on the basis of ‘performance’, for which the department is working on a policy and will soon be implemented.
