ITANAGAR, Oct 29: Minister, Environment & Forests, WRD etc. Mama Natung convened a meeting with the Chairmen/Chairpersons and Vice Chairmen of all the Boards and Corporations under the Department of Environment & Forests here at the PCCF Office on Thursday, wherein he was apprised on their current statuses and shortcomings.
Through PowerPoint Presentations, the Minister accompanied by Adviser (E&F) Kumsi Sidisow was informed about the State Bamboo Resources & Development Agency, State Biodiversity Board, State Pollution Control Board, State Medicinal Plant Board and Forest Corporation Ltd. Emphasising on the importance of field visits by officers to keep track of the ground-level implementation status, Natung said it will result in an outcome-based mechanism. Adviser (E&F) highlighted the potential of medicinal plants and spices in the state which can become a viable economic opportunity for locals. Currently, the state is in the process of nominating two Biodiversity Heritage Sites (BHS), one in Shergaon and the other in Hong Village of Ziro Valley. BHS is a designation to denote the unique, ecologically fragile ecosystems having richness of wild as well as domesticated species, past pre-eminence of biological components represented by fossil beds and significant cultural and aesthetic values.
