ITANAGAR, Nov 29: The Forest & Environment Department has set in motion steps for giving Gyakar Sinyik lake popularly known as Ganga lake a facelift after taking over charge.
Minister for Forest & Environment, Mama Natung today inspected the lake to get a first-hand account of the popular tourist attraction and its infrastructure. He was accompanied by Principal Secretary cum Chief Conservator of Forest (PCCF) RK Singh, PCCF(Wildlife) G Kumar, and other officials of the Forest & Environment Department.
“Forest & Environment Department has taken over the charge of Gyakar Sinyik lake to revive the entire infrastructure. Earlier, it was under Itanagar Wildlife Sanctuary, then the Department of Tourism took it from the Forest Department; now the parent department has taken over the charge once again," informed the Minister.
Natung also said that the department has spoken to the District Administration who is also the Chairman of the District Development Committee to handover the lake to the concerned department as the maintenance of the lake and its infrastructure was not going well.
After the visit and assessment, a meeting is planned with all the officers of the department to take measures for the lake's rejuvenation.
"This lake has mythological importance but now it is in a dilapidated condition.

Our priority would be to revive its existing infrastructure and to create awareness of its importance in all platforms to increase tourist footfall to this historic lake," said Natung.
When asked about encroachment issues around the lake, the Minister said the PCCF and District Administration will soon hold a joint meeting to identify the actual area and land encroachments.
"We will definitely take strong action if there is any kind of encroachment," he said.
