CHANGLANG, Apr 10: Environment & Forest Minister Mama Natung today launched the Arunachal Airgun Surrender Abhiyaan (AASA) organized by the Changlang Social Forestry Division here at the Divisional Forest Office.
Around seventeen air guns were surrendered on the day by the villagers. With words of appreciation for the gesture, Natung appealed to the district’s people to support the campaign for the greater interest of the state and requested the PRI leaders to generate mass awareness to check the trend of hunting for personal needs. “People need to understand the importance of animals and birds in human life and their extinction will create ecological imbalance in the state which will have a grave impact”, he said. “Our state is blessed with a huge wildlife cover in the entire country. We should spread the Abhiyaan to the grassroots before it’s too late to save Mother Nature,” he added. Appealing the district’s people to incorporate the policy of planting ‘ten plants for cutting a tree’, Natung underscored the need for protecting the state’s flora.
While inaugurating the temporary office of the Executive Engineer, WRD at Yatdam Circle, Natung who also holds the Water Resource Department (WRD) portfolio, assured a permanent office for which he laid the foundation stone on the day. All developmental activities in the state were halted due to the pandemic, however, the state government is all set to revive them in each district, he added. State Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker Tesam Pongte while thanking the minister for his prompt response for construction of the WRD office in Changlang said the district’s people faced lots of problems due to the office’s earlier location in Bordumsa. “People had to travel extra by passing through Assam to reach the office. But now with the establishment of the office in the district, not only the travel burden will ease but also there will be smooth official communication exchanges,” Pongte added. On the sideline he also requested the media persons to report on the better side of the district rather than focusing on the wrongdoings of a few vested groups only.
Earlier, Natung inaugurated the 10 mtr indoor shooting range at GHSS, Changlang, the district futsal ground and accompanied Education Minister Taba Tedir during the inauguration of eight classrooms and science laboratory at the GHSS and in the visit to Rangfrah guest house.
Among others, Changlang Deputy Commissioner Devansh Yadav, Adviser to PWD Minister Phosum Khimhun, Adviser to Tourism Minister Laisam Simai and Taliha MLA Nyato Rigia were present.
