ITANAGAR, Aug 7: Environment and Forest minister Mama Natung today gave a clarion call to the people of East Kameng to make the district self-reliant and become the most developed district in the state.
While unveiling the logo of the Nyokum Yullo Golden Jubilee Celebration Seppa -2022 at a city hotel here today, the minister who represents the Seppa West constituency in the Assembly, said, infrastructurally and academically, East Kameng witnessed unprecedented growth in recent years.
"East Kameng was once known as a punishment place but it has made a sea change in every front, and outsiders are belatedly acknowledging it. What we need now is Atma Nirbhar East Kameng. We can produce everything from artifacts to vegetables instead of depending on Itanagar and Assam.  The economic status of the inhabitants will also improve if we become atma nirbhar (self-reliant).  East Kameng is blessed with potential, and we can achieve the target of making it the most developed district in the state," Natung said.
Seppa town legislator Tapuk Taku assured all possible help to make the golden jubilee celebration a grand success.  He suggested the committee members to include everyone to make the celebration a lifetime experience.
Celebration Committee chairman Dr Tachi Taku and secretary Pai Dawe said the celebration would be original in its most accurate form, from rituals to indigenous sports and cultural competitions. However, in the wake of the second wave of Covid-19 cases, they said, they would organize all the events virtually.  Taku said this year's celebration would be centralized at Seppa, and all the blocks and circles of the district have been barred from celebrating it.
Meanwhile, Celebration Committee assistant general secretary Akung Gyadi, the general secretary of East Kameng Christian Forum, appealed to the Christian believers of East Kameng to participate wholeheartedly to make the golden jubilee celebration a success.
Seppa for the first time celebrated its Nyokum in 1972 with pioneers like Madi Singhi, Yaso Taku Singhi, and Nyari Welly taking the lead roles and Fegung Rimo as the priest.
