AALO, Mar 24: Minister, Sports & Youth Affairs, Forest etc. Mama Natung has assured that construction work for Aalo Sports Stadium will commence soon and will be completed.
Natung gave the assurance today while inspecting the stadium which has been lying defunct for almost 5 years. “Government is quite concerned about the issue and recently allotted Rs 3 crore for commencement of construction and fund flow will continue as work progresses,” the Minister said while observing the difficulty faced by the district’s sports enthusiasts in pursuing their sporting activities. The delay was due to delinking of the SPA aid granted by the Centre, he said, adding that Sports Secretary, Director and a team from the Sports Directorate has been deputed to convey the actualities to the district’s people. MLA Aalo East, Advocate Kento Jini and Deputy Commissioner hailed the visit of the Minister and apprised him about work progress, fund placement and the initiatives taken so far for construction. Speaking on behalf of the people of West Siang, Ex. Minister and Chairman, Aalo Town Peoples’ Welfare and Development Society Kento Ete rued that inordinate delay in construction has not only caused a halt in all sporting activities in the district but also disrupted all National Day celebrations and big social gatherings.
Meanwhile, attending an open meeting held at the stadium construction site on the day, Natung appealed all to participate in the ‘Air Gun Surrender Abhiyan’ aimed at protecting the rich varieties of birds and animals. “The abhiyan should be intensified particularly in the Abotani belts of the state where large-scale hunting is prevalent and the DFOs have been directed to intensify it. The names of persons surrendering their air guns will be noted so that the government can think of giving incentives to them in future,” he informed.
Zilla Parishad Chairperson Babom Romin, ZPMs, members of ATPWDS, representatives of Sports Federations, Head of Offices, common people and youths attended the meeting. DIPRO
