ITANAGAR, Jan 25: The 12th National Voters Day (NVD) was celebrated across the state today in a befitting manner on the theme of “Making Elections Inclusive, Accessible & Participative".
At YUPIA, observing the day virtually,  the District Election Officer Papum Pare, Minga Sherpa said that the day is observed annually to encourage young voters to take part in the electoral process.
Outlining the importance of voting rights,  he also briefly spoke about evolution of Universal Adult Franchise and devolution of voting rights to womenfolk and said that  awareness needs to be created so that every eligible citizen is enrolled to participate in the electoral process through voting. He also administered Voters pledge to all participants on the occasion.
Jt.CEO Liken Koyu congratulated the newly enrolled young voters and urged people to avail online facility in view of COVID-19 restrictions.
DEO also gave away EPICs and certificates to  nine newly enrolled young voters from Itanagar and Doimukh Polling Stations and felicitated fifteen outstanding Booth Level Officers.
Winners of essay and drawing competitions were also felicitated.
At PASIGHAT, District Election Officer (DEO) cum DC, Tayi Taggu, felicitated newly enrolled young voters, presented Badges & Elector Photo Identity Cards (EPICs),  certificates & prizes to the winners of the Slogan Writing Competition organised by the District Election Office, Pasighat.  Certificate for Best Booth Level Officers of the district was awarded to Tanup Tatak,AFA for his outstanding contribution.
In his address, Taggu urged the youth to take active participation by exercising their voting  rights for a vibrant democracy. Voters Pledge was also administered on the occasion. At BOMDILA, Deputy Commissioner cum District Election Officer (DEO) Karma Leki virtually interacted with the Booth Level Officers (BLOs), Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), Assistant EROs, Admin officers and newly enrolled voters of West Kameng District.

While interacting with the participants, he shared the brief history and role of the Election Commission of India (ECI) in conducting free and fair elections in the country.  
“Democracy is defined as a Government of the people, by the people and for the people and ECI observes NVD to create awareness and encourage the new voters to participate in the voting process by exercising the Universal Adult Franchise right,"  he added.
To mark the occasion, commendable certificates were also conferred to the best performing BLOs of the district.
During the function the newly enrolled voters were also facilitated with the EPIC cards and prizes of literary competition were also distributed.
 At TAWANG, DC-cum-District Election Officer, KN Damo highlighted the importance of the day and the privilege that the Constitution of India bestows to each citizen of the country to exercise their franchise to strengthen the democratic set up of the country. While congratulating the new voters, he exhorted them to take part in the electoral process whole heartedly to cherish and uphold the democratic traditions of our country.
Earlier, the new voters were felicitated along with distribution of EPIC Card.
