Jollang, Aug 9: A two-day national seminar titled ‘Socio-Cultural and Economic Linkages to Sustainable Development in North-East India’ was inaugurated today here at Don Bosco College.
Secretary Education, GoAP Dr. Madhu Rani Teotia was the Chief Guest and General Manager, NABARD, Itanagar Branch, Dr. Gopa Kumaran Nair was the Guest of Honour.
Secretary Education while stressing on the importance of growth of Northeast India also highlighted the region’s potential and the need for preservation of local languages and traditional medicinal practices.
Director, NERIST Professor H.S. Yadav highlighted the importance of Agriculture, Biodiversity, Gender Equality, Health, Industry and Eco Tourism as means of sustainable development of the Northeast. NABARD GM spoke on the importance of growth of the region with reference to agriculture. Principal Dr. Fr. Jose Karamullil thanked the guests, scholars and students for their participation. Resource Persons, Bikash Bage who is also the HoD, Sociology faculty of RGU spoke on the topic, ‘Social Sustainability’ and Professor Nishamani Kar of RGU’s Department of Geography delivered lecture on the topic ‘Sustainability and Conservation of Natural Development’.
A total of 22 papers were presented from participants across the country on the first day. DBC PR
