ITANAGAR, Aug 9: 7th National Handloom Day was celebrated by  M/s Jenier weaver co-operative society at Model Village, Naharlagun on August 7, maintaining Covid-19 SOPs.
Speaking on the occasion,   Techi Tara, former member of All India Handloom Board Member, GoI  said that the National Handloom Day was celebrated for the weavers who have preserved traditions and customs of the state as well as the country as a whole. Citing the importance of handlooms, he also expressed that local youths should be encouraged to participate and preserve their traditional arts. 
AGM, Apex Bank,  Taba Oya who attended as guest of honour also lauded the efforts of the local weavers and their entrepreneurship skills.
National Handloom day is observed annually on 7th August to honour the handloom weavers in the country and to generate awareness about the importance of handloom- weavers sector.
The day was also celebrated by Dopik Multipurpose Society at Dobam Weaving Centre, Dobam Village, Karsingsa.
Meanwhile, a select group of weavers are currently participating in 'My Handloom My Pride Expo' at Dilli Haat from August 1-15, organized by the Development Commissioner for Handlooms (DCH) Ministry of Textiles, Government of India in the national capital.
