Likabali, Dec 21: The Paklu Taipodia Classic National Bodybuilding and Fitness Championship was inaugurated by the Deputy Speaker Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly Kardo Nyigyor today at Likabali in Lower Siang District. The first ever championship held here evokes enthusiasm and high spirits among the athletes and the host as well. 138 athletes from 14 states of India are participating in the championship here.
Nyigyor termed the event historic and an honour for the district to host a national level event. He urged the athletes and officials participating in the championship to bear with the lack of basic infrastructure as the district is at a nascent stage of evolution. He wished the participating athletes to display their best performances and motivate the local youth abundantly. He also urged them to appreciate and cherish the hospitality and loving nature of the people of the state whenever they go back to their respective states and districts.. He appreciated and thanked Paklu Taipodia, who herself is an international body building champion, for facilitating hosting of the event in the district.
Lower Siang Deputy Commissioner Rujjum Rakshap who attended the event as guest of honour thanked Paklu for organizing the event in Likabali. The organisation of the championship could materialise despite the busy election schedule due to the support of every individual involved, he noted. The DC welcomed the participants from mainland India and appealed to them to display the sports in its best form.
He further said that the theme of the Championship - "Say no to drugs and yes to fitness" itself speaks volumes of the message it would give to the youth of the day. The event equally addresses the menace of drug abuse and the dire need for fitness among the people, the DC said.
Meanwhile, Paklu Taipodia while acknowledging the support and patronage of the local MLA, district administration, Mita So Welfare Society (MAWS) and all involved, called upon the athletes coming from all over India to explore the new district, display true sportsmanship spirit and motivate the youth and spread the message of the theme of the Championship far and wide among the youth.
