Namsai, Dec 7: The untimely death of Chow Chetmoon Mongmaw, Namsai’s leading entrepreneur who was also widely admired for delivering multifarious social responsibilities has cast a pall of gloom in the district and the state’s business fraternity.
Mongmaw passed away on Sunday night at a private hospital in the national capital after succumbing to multi-organ failure. His mortal remains were brought today at his residence in Namsai. On Tuesday after a condolence meeting the body will be taken to Chongkham, his native village for funeral with full Buddhist rituals. Having had a long and close association with Late Mongmaw, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein termed the death as a personal loss and a loss to society. Remembering Mongmaw as an amiable and enterprising personality, the DCM added the Late entrepreneur was not only successful in running the Eco-Resort near Golden Pagoda, but also inspired many youths of the area to emulate his style of entrepreneurship.
Namsai MLA and State BJP General Secretary Chau Zingnu Namchoom while terming the demise of Mongmaw as a big blow to society, pointed out that he was not only a leading entrepreneur who besides being instrumental in developing the area’s tourism sector was also involved in various social activities. Chow Meokhun Mongmaw, the eldest brother and former Director, Treasuries and Accounts and presently the General Secretary of the apex organization Tai Khamti Singpho Council recalled his brother’s large-heartedness.
Born in 1968 at Chongkham to Late Chow Soling Mongmaw and Late Nang Kan Mongmaw as the tenth child among eleven siblings, Late Mongmaw did his graduation from Government Degree College (now DN College, Itanagar). After serving a short stint as the Station Superintendent at Tezu during early 2000s he worked as an APO under DRDA for some years before embracing full-time entrepreneurship and social activities.
