ITANAGAR, Nov 7: The All Namsai Area Youth Association (ANAYA) has appealed all not to give the Namsai arson case a communal colour citing that the incident is not linked to communalism although attempts are being made in social networking sites to give it a communal colour.
“Whatever happened is very unfortunate and we also strongly condemn it in the strongest terms. Since the incident is the result of eviction by Forest Department against illegal settlers under reserved forest, so let us not give it a communal colour,” ANAYA, President, Chow Kyawon Singkai said. Also refuting the NEHRO (Northeast Human Rights Organization) statement in media over the issue, Singkai said that it is wrong on the part of NEHRO to mention only the particular Adi tribes name when there are non-Adi people who are also in the list of encroachers. “NEHRO mentioned in the recent press conference that houses of only Adi people had been burnt down, however, the truth is that as per police investigation report not all of the houses belonged to them and there were names of non-Adis too. So why they didn’t mentioned about it?,” Singkai questioned. “The particular mentioning of Adi tribe in the case has flared up the situation and passing such comments in media without verifying the real facts could be detrimental to existing communal harmony and peace,” he added.
Also denouncing efforts on social media by few unscrupulous people to give the incident a communal colour, Singkai said while District Administration Namsai and the student organization is putting every effort to diffuse the tension, some people are hell-bent to give the issue a communal colour with their own versions of the incident in social media.“The police have arrested three suspects who are now out taking interim bail in connection with New Maboira area incident wherein 14 houses were torched on October 12. An effort is on to nab the culprits involved in the latest incident of October 24 wherein 4 houses were burnt down by unknown miscreants. The matter is with the police now and the investigation is still going on so we request all not to further ignite the issue and let law take its own course of action,” Singkai appealed.
