ITANAGAR, Oct 26: In wake of the prevailing communal tension in Namsai district, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein and Home Minister Bamang Felix called an emergency meeting with all stakeholders late in the evening of October 25 last.

After the meeting it was decided that a peace delegation comprising Health Minister Alo Libang and MLAs Ninong Ering & Jignu Namchoom will visit Namsai with the purpose of urging people to maintain peace in the area, besides meeting the affected families. To supplement the peace mission, President ABK, Getom Borang and Retd. PCCF Khampti Chief, CK Namchoom have also been requested to intervene in the matter. The delegation will conduct meeting with the district units of ABK and TKSC in order to restore peace and tranquility. District Administration and police have been directed to take strict action as per law and apprehend the perpetrators of the Mabira Village arson incident immediately.

Meanwhile, State Home Minister has directed the DGP and district police to take all necessary steps to control the law and order situation. DC Namsai has been instructed to extend immediate relief to the affected families. Felix has further requested the members of Arunachal Indigenous Tribes Forum to intervene for the sake of communal harmony.

All stakeholders including CBOs, political parties, students’ unions, youths etc. have also been appealed by the state government to work together to ensure peace, communal harmony and tranquility.

The All Arunachal Pradesh Student's Union has appealed both the Adi Student's Union (AdiSu) and All Tai Khampti Singpho Student's Union (ATKSSU) to maintain peace stating that the matter if not resolved has the potential to flare up communal tensions in Namsai District.

It is quite disheartening to note that Adi community which is looked upon as one of the most forward looking & democratic community and Tai Khamptis known for being one of the most peace loving tribe in whole of the state is going through such troubled times. Whatever may have been the reason, let peace prevail and law take it's own course of action, the union beseeched.

Communal exaggeration and exertion in the long run won't yield any fruitful results as is evident from past instances rather it would bring more mistrust and disharmony among the people of the two communities. Hence, we, the undersigned on behalf of the All Arunachal Pradesh Student's Union (AAPSU) would appeal to the student leaders of both the community to sit across the table and search for a peaceful solution in greater interest of both the community and for the state as a whole.

Further, the AAPSU also urged the State Government to immediately intervene without any further delay so that peace and tranquility in maintained in Namsai District. We would also appeal to both sides to refrain from circulating provocative messages on social media, the union said in a release.
