ITANAGAR, Jan 4: Naharlagun has been adjudged the ‘Best Performing Municipal Council’ under the Centre’s flagship Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-Urban) scheme.
The award was received by Municipal Commissioner, Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC) Cheechung Chukhu from Union MoS (I/c), Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri through a videoconference on January 1 last. Out of a total of 88 beneficiaries from across the country who were felicitated, three were from Arunachal Pradesh. Phassang Yatup (Naharlagun), Ponglu Phuksa Rangjang (Khonsa) and Roto Tath (Ziro) were awarded under the ‘Best House Construction’ category. The award recipients attended the programme through their respective NICs. The Union MoS informed that under PMAY-Urban scheme, 1.09 crore houses had been sanctioned against a demand of 1.12 crore houses and as of now 40 lakh houses have been handed over to the beneficiaries and 70 lakh more are under construction.

Rajkot, Chennai, Ranchi, Agartala and Lucknow via videoconferencing. About 1,000 houses at each location will be constructed annually using six distinct technologies from a basket of 54 such technologies shortlisted under GHTC-India 2019. Addressing the Chief Ministers, Governors and other officials of the participating states, the Prime Minister said the country is now accessing new technologies for providing resilient, affordable and comfortable houses to the poor and the middle class.
The cooperation extended by the states in implementation of these housing projects is in a way strengthening cooperative federalism, he noted.
