NAMSAI, Apr 19: The Potential Linked Credit Plan (2021-22) for Namsai which is a comprehensive document elaborating the district’s potential in terms of rural economic activities, both in physical and financial terms prepared by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) was presented today to Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein here in a meeting.
District Development Manager, NABARD (Tirap, Longding, Changlang and Namsai) Kamal Roy presented a copy of the PLP to the DCM in presence of the members of Namsai Organic Spices And Agricultural Products (NOSAAP) Producer Co. Ltd. Lauding NABARD for its initiatives in nurturing the state’s Farmer Producers' Organisations (FPOs), Mein underscored the need to promote local value-added products as well as traditional handloom items. He also drew attention of NOSAAP regarding the need to improve packaging of products and manufacturing of packaging materials. Let NOSAAP be the implementing agency for the mini food processing unit in Namsai that will deal with products like Khamti Lahi rice, vegetable items and spices, the DCM suggested.
The NABARD DDM while briefing Mein about the PLP said it is an effort at making projections of credit requirements of different sectors in the district taking into account long-term potentialities, availability of infrastructure, marketing support, credit absorption capacity and strengths and weaknesses of the credit delivery system. The DCM was informed that a rural haat is proposed to be set up at Mahadevpur II for NOSAAP by NABARD to promote local value-added products and handloom items. Untied funds will be utilised to provide training to the SHGs and for procurement of finished products for institutions and government departments, Roy informed and briefed about the proposed Tribal Development Fund (TDF) project in Namsai, the objective of which will be to ensure sustainable income generation of the district’s farmers. The other topics discussed included handlooms and potential projects to be implemented by the Tai Khamti Heritage and Literary Society through the MSME.
