KHARSANG, Aug 27: A training programme on ‘Cake Making & Bakery Products’ for the Self Help Groups (SHGs) of Kharsang in Changlang district under the Micro Enterprise Development Programme (MEDP) was launched here on Thursday.

The programme is being sponsored by the Arunachal Pradesh Regional Office of NABARD and executed by the NGO Arunachal Orphan Care Society (AOCS). A total of 30 members from different SHGs of the area will undergo the training on bakery products.

The District Development Manager, NABARD Kamal Roy briefed on MEDP which is meant for benefitting the rural women and SHGs. “MEDPs are on-location skill development training programmes which attempt to bridge the skill deficits and facilitate optimization of production activities already pursued by the SHG members. It will also boost the Central government’s 'Atma Nirbhar Bharat' and ‘Vocal for Local’ objectives,” Roy added.

Speaking on the occasion, Chairperson, AOCS Rina Longri explained how the training can help the rural women to get skilled in bakery products for micro-enterprise development. “This would empower the rural women for better income and self-sustenance,” she said, adding that it would enhance the socio-economic status of rural masses, especially the women entrepreneurs.
