PASIGHAT, Nov 2: Bridging the gap between Arunachal Pradesh and other parts of the country, the first-ever Multi Lingual Writers’ Meet got underway on Saturday at the Pasighat CHF auditorium amid a huge turnout of noted scholars, writers and poets from different parts of India. The two-day meet is being hosted by Sahitya Akademi in collaboration with Central Agricultural University, Imphal, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh Literary Society.
Eminent writer and noted poet Yeshe Dorjee Thongchi and Pasighat CHF Dean Dr. BN Hazarika graced the occasion as Chief Guest and Guest of Honour respectively. Padmashri Mamang Dai, Vice-President Madhav Kaushik and Secretary Dr. K. Sreenivasarao of Sahitya Akademy were also present on the occasion.
Kaling Borang (Adi), Saumya Joshi (Gijrati), Nomi Maga Gumro (Hindi), SV Stayanarayana (Telugu), Ishraqul Islam Mahir (Urdhu) and Mahonto Panging Pao presented self-composed poetries on the first day.
In his inaugural address, YD Thongchi extended his gratitude and thanks to Sahitya Akademi for holding the meet in a grand manner in remote Arunachal Pradesh. Through such meet, writers from many parts of the country would get opportunity to showcase their writing skill on different genre, he said and expressed hope that new generation would not only gain literary experience from this meet, but it would be a memorable occasion for them to cherish for life.
In early days, Assamese was taught in Arunachal Pradesh and the first written literature was shown in Pasighat. Tagang Taki had been honored by Sahitya Akademi with “Bhasa Sanman” in 2013 for Adi language became first writer from this state as his Adi-Byakaran in Assamese was published in 1957, informed Thongchi. Pasighat has given greatest writer Late Lummer Dai whose stories/books had brought him immense popularity amongst the readers of Assam and now his name has been written in golden letters in the annals of literary history of Assam as one of the greatest writers of Assamese language. Thongchi also mentioned contributions of Mamang Dai and Yumlam Tana poets and fiction writers for writing in English and Hindi. The writing in Arunachal Pradesh received the attention of nation when our writers started to win Sahitya Akademi and other prestigious literary awards along with a Padmashri for literature by Mamang Dai, added the Chief Guest.
Earlier Guest of Honour Prof. Dr. BN Hazarika who is known for publishing 20 books, 70 research papers and 170 popular articles, threw lights on Assamese language and culture and expressed hope that the young writers’ would give more exposure to Assam and the Assamese literature at the national level.
Vice-President Madhav Kaushik and Secretary, Dr. K. Sreenivasarao of Sahitya Akademy, writer and historian Viswas Patil and fighter turned writer Rtd. Group Captain Mohonto Panging Pao also spoke on the occasion. DIPRO
