ITANAGAR, Sep 23: A ninth grade student who reportedly drowned after accidentally slipping into a flooded nallah somewhere near the road leading to Lobi area has been retrieved, ace mountaineer and Tenzing Norgay National Adventure award recipient, Taka Tamut who rushed to the spot to assist in the search told this daily.
The deceased is a resident of village Tungi, Chayangtajo, East Kameng district and has been identified as Nungtu Tungi. Taka who left his badminton match midway along with another boy from the neighbourhood after hearing the news, said that after a half-hour of search he found the body at least 2 kilometres away from the spot where the boy had been carried away by the gushing water triggered by continous rainfall.
Taka observed that the boy might have accidentally slipped into the uncovered flooded Nallah around 8 to 8: 30 Pm.
A friend accompanying the deceased tried to rescue him but failed and immediately rushed home and informed his parents, who further alerted the police. " I performed CPR as soon as I found the body but the boy was already dead, " Taka said adding that police were seen heading towards the spot when he reached back home.
Meanwhile, Taka appealed the District administration to direct to all contractors, firms etc constructing drains to properly cover the drains to ensure that such incidents are not repeated.
