ITANAGAR, Aug 9: A Memorandum of Understanding was signed today between the state government and OKD Institute of Social Change and Development, Guwahati for preparation of the second State Human Development Report 2019.
As per the MoU, the said institute will prepare a report on the theme: “Rethinking Sustainability with Global and National Commitment to SDGs i.e Planet and People for prosperity” which is to be submitted within a period of eighteen months. Secretary (Planning & Investment), Himanshu Gupta, signed the MoU on behalf of the state government while the OKD Institute of Social Changes was represented by its Director-in-Charge Professor Kalyan Das. Chief Secretary, Satya Gopal and senior officers including those from the Planning Department were present.
It can be recalled that the first State HDR of Arunachal Pradesh was published in 2005 in collaboration with Rajiv Gandhi University and planners, academicians, research scholars and policy makers have been facing difficulties as it has been almost 14 years since then after which no such report has been prepared. State government felt that there is an urgent need to prepare the second SHDR using latest available data which will help in undertaking people-centric development in the state.
Chief Secretary assured full support to the institute in their assignment and expressed hope that the upcoming State Human Development Report 2019 (HDR) will address the issue of inequality in Human Development in Arunachal Pradesh. He opined that it will aim for the most comprehensive analysis of inequality in human development taken up in the state till date that will help in taking informed policy decisions in order to ensure sustainable development and reduction of inequalities in state.
