ITANAGAR, Mar 28: In a highly covert operation, a joint team of SIT and Changlang District Police, under the supervision of IG (L&O) Chukhu Apa arrested most wanted Rangpong Hakhun, a Kilonser- Minister of NSCN(IM) insurgent group from Tinsukia, Assam.
In its press statement, IG disclosed that acting on a tip-off, the police team after two days of continuous effort arrived at Tinsukia on 25th March last with the support of Tinsukia Police, and on basis of a hard intelligence report, arrested the NSCN-IM Minister.
Semley Hakhun @ Rangpong Hakhun , Age- 51 Yrs, is from -Malugoan village, PO/PS- Ledo, District Tinsukia, Assam and presently based at Purana Bazaar-B , Dimapur, Nagaland.He is originally from Wanrok Village, Namyung, Sagain Division, Kachin State, Myanmar.
He joined NSCN-K in the year 1986, later he joined NSCN-IM in the year 2013 as Tatar (Member of Parliament). At present, he is holding a post of Kilonser- NSCN(IM) and is involved in major extortion activities on behalf of the NSCN-IM, in the general area of TCL region, stated IG Chukhu Apa.
Rs. 2.18 lakhs of financial transactions (the account has now been frozen by APP), two mobiles and sim cards have been recovered from him. He is being interrogated and has revealed crucial information about the organizational structure and the activities of the leadership of the NSCN-IM.
With the arrest of the top leadership, the APP has upped the ante against extortion and other criminal activities by the insurgents, and now plans to work in a systematic way to target the core of the insurgency issue, stated IG (L&O).
