TEZU, Aug 31: The Model Residential School (MRS) which started with much fanfare at the Government Secondary School Loiliang in Lohit district under the Chief Minister’s Adhunik Pathsala Yojana Scheme (CMAPYS) in 2018-19 academic year has been closed down recently by the State’s Education Department.
When contacted, Headmaster, GSS Loiliang, Bisar Lingi appreciated the government’s innovative approach to bring qualitative improvement in education at a time when government schools have been performing poorly.
Citing the MRS’s excellent performance, he informed that in CBSE 2019-20 all of its 9 students who appeared had passed with more than 70% marks except for one with 61% and the highest scorer secured 76%. Comparing it with the day scholars, the Headmaster gave the figures that out of 33 examinees, only 4 passed. “These students (day scholars) pay least attention to their studies and never complete homework that resulted in poor results. However, at the RMS the teachers constantly guided the pupils in their studies which gave excellent results. The concept of MRS should be continued for upgrading quality of education and making the students competitive,” Lingi suggested.
Meanwhile, GSS sources revealed the school has received the discontinuation letter from the Director of School Education on August 17. The move is in sharp contrast with the State Cabinet's decision of converting one Higher Secondary School in each district to a Model Residential School with the aim of bringing improvement in the state’s education sector.
Pasighat West MLA Ninong Ering in the recently concluded seventh Assembly session raised the issue of discontinuation of the MRS during Zero Hour and requested the government for its continuation for the sake of ensuring quality education.
