YINGKIONG, Feb 19: Acting on a complaint by the people of Gobuk village under Yingkiong Circle of Upper Siang district alleging delay by BSNL and Airtel authorities in constructing mobile towers meant for delivering mobile services in the area, District Administration today conducted a face-to-face fact-finding meeting here involving the two telecom service providers and aggrieved villagers.
The said delays are regarding construction of a Heavy Weight Microwave BSNL Tower at Retok area of Gobuk village which started in 2011 and the Airtel Tower which started in 2018. The meeting was headed by CO Yingkiong Philip Jerang with the aim of gathering precise insights of the matter. Airtel representative was found absent and the SDO(T), BSNL Yingkiong informed that the said Heavy Weight Micro Wave Tower is not meant for providing mobile network services as claimed by villagers. He added that to meet this need of mobile network services, a separate BSNL mobile network tower can be installed in the village which will however need further approval from higher authority. CO requested the villagers to remain cooperative with the administration and assured them to summon the Airtel representative for finding the technical facts. Gobuk villagers claimed they have been deprived of their right to access mobile network services and internet connectivity as per the Digital India Initiative which promises such services to all rural Panchayats in the country, adding that state government also have the same responsibility.
Although Gobuk village is just 25 km away from the District Headquarters here, villagers haven’t accessed mobile network facilities till date from any of the telecom companies. Further delays in providing mobile network facilities will not be tolerated, the villagers reiterated. DIPRO
