ITANAGAR, Sep 4: State Assembly Speaker P D Sona on Saturday chaired a meeting with the legislators of districts along the Indo-China border to discuss various issues pertaining to the developmental needs of the people living in the international border areas.
Addressing the members, the Speaker, who represents 33rd Mechukha Assembly Constituency bordering China, informed that the meeting was necessary to discuss and find ways to check the frequent migration of people from border villages to urban areas.
Stating that people living along the international borders are still devoid of basic amenities owing to which they migrate to urban areas in search of a better life, the Speaker suggested that in order to check people’s exodus the border areas need to be developed on priority and sought suggestions from the members.
Members Phurpa Tsering, Mutchu Mithi, Dasanglu Pul, Lokam Tassar, Tsering Tashi and Talem Taboh also echoed similar concerns and suggested a common platform of legislators of border areas to highlight the issues as individual requests are not effective.
Accordingly, the members unanimously formed a forum named, "Indo-China Border Development Legislators' Forum of Arunachal Pradesh" with P D  Sona as Chairman, Lokam Tassar as Convenor and others as Members respectively.
During the course of discussion, the members also suggested modification of existing BADP guidelines, fund enhancement and submission of block wise utilization certification instead of existing collective one which unnecessarily hamper the implementation of BADP schemes.
In the meantime, the members decided to soon submit a memorandum to the Chief Minister highlighting their grievances to be taken up at the appropriate level.
