MEDO, Jun 10:  The family of a minor girl who was found dead under mysterious circumstances here on June 1 last have sought justice claiming ‘foul play’ as the immediate cause for the unfortunate death.
The 11-year old girl was found hanging in her house when reportedly there were no other members present and her parents have claimed that it could be a case of sexual assault and murder.
Based on doubts, villagers apprehended a 60-year old man, who according to them was the culprit and handed him over to the police. As per the FIR lodged by the victim’s father at Wakro Police Station, on the fateful day after returning home at around 11:30 am in the morning he found her daughter hanging from the cloth rack. “I was dumbfounded by the sight and at the very moment after noticing the presence of a person in the house with a suspicious body language, handed him over to the police,” the victim’s father narrated. “My daughter is too little to take such extreme steps. So I appeal the concerned authority to make a proper inquiry of the incident and confer justice to my daughter,” he added.
When contacted, Superintendent of Police, Lohit Dr. Dorjee Wangdi Thongon informed that although acting on the claims made by the victim’s family members a UD case U/S 174 CrPC has been registered, from the investigation so far, no angle of sexual assault could be established and preliminary medical examination report also suggests that it is a case of suicide. “We have arrested the person based on allegations made by the victim’s parents and villagers on the very day and interrogated him. But later it was found that he was not involved in the case and coincidentally reached the house at the moment of the incident,” SP said, joining that further investigation is on and details will be disclosed if any major breakthrough is made in the case.
Meanwhile, member ChildLine, Namsai Indong Nong informed that they received the information about the incident only on June 7 and reached the victim’s house immediately and had spoken to the family members. “On the insistence of the family members and being a childcare NGO, we advised the family to lodge an FIR at Wakro PS,” Nong informed.
