TEZU, Aug 23: Agriculture Minister Dr. Mohesh Chai visited the Army firing range along with Karma Leki, Deputy Commissioner, DW Thungon, SP Lohit, Army officials, Gaon burahs and villagers.
His visit comes following the death of Bapainglum Tailu (51) who was killed on August 9 after an unexploded Mortar exploded at the firing range near Loiliang village,
The Minister also expressed concern over the number of live mortar shells spread out predominantly at the firing range without diffusing. “It is unfortunate the way heavy shells are lying scattered all over the firing range without proper diffusing causing unwanted explosions,” Dr. Chai said stressing the need for immediate diffusing of the same.
The Minister also suggested that the DC decide on a future firing range after proper discussion with the villagers of the area to avoid further loss of lives.
He vowed to pursue the compensation from CM’s relief fund to the bereaved family.
In a memorandum to the DC, the villagers of Ballaliang and Loiliang also demanded the early release of ex-gratia payment to the victim’s family, shifting of the firing range and immediate sealing of firing range.
