MIDPU, Jul 9: Health Minister Alo Libang on Thursday visited the construction site of the pre-fabricated Covid hospital here to have a review of the ongoing work progress.
Secretary Health P Parthiban, officials of TRIHMS, DHS and Deputy Commissioner Papum Pare accompanied the Minister.
Interacting with the officials and executing agency, Libang took updates on work progress and urged them to maintain the quality requirements. Speaking to the media, the Minister informed that the hospital may take a few weeks more for its completion as the state government has decided to upgrade it with ICU facilities. “Earlier, a 35-bed moderate Covid Hospital was proposed, but observing the current situation we have decided to upgrade it to at least a 60-bed one with ICU facilities,” Libang said.
Replying to the query regarding the cause of delay of the project, the Minister informed that it has been due to the lockdown and high demand of fabricated cabins across the country, for which the supplier had to face some difficulties. However, he assured that the cabins will be arriving on time after commencement of the unlock phases. “The cabins will be having air-conditioners, oxygen facilities along with all other basic facilities,” he said, assuring along with that all precautionary measures will be taken to make sure that there are no chances of spread of the virus in adjoining localities.
Elaborating on the technicalities, Secretary Health informed that within the next few weeks, the pre-fabricated hospital will be activated as a Dedicated Covid Health Centre (DCHC).
“The ground floor of the TRIHMS will be used as an ICU facility for critical Covid patients and simultaneously we will build a proper Covid hospital in the next couple of weeks with ICUs, labs, diagnostic and other facilities here at Midpu with pre-fabricated cabins,” the Secretary Health asserted.
