MIAO, Jun 24: HRD branch of the State Tourism Department organised the Eastern Arunachal Pradesh Tourism Convergence Meet 2019 here at Circuit House spread over two days on June 23 & 24 to chalk out the road map for promoting tourism as an instrument of sustainable development in the eastern part of the state.
There were 63 stakeholders from the districts of Lower Dibang Valley, Upper Dibang Valley, Anjaw, Lohit, Namsai and Changlang and the common agenda that was adopted  for the ‘Miao Declaration’ was ‘Tourism for sustainable development in Eastern Arunachal Pradesh’. There were several inputs from guides, home stay owners, forest and tourism officials and NGOs based on which the Miao Declaration was announced.
Advisor Rural Tourism & Home Stay, Government of Arunachal Pradesh, Raj Basu made the introductory presentation and concept note with presentations from Namdapha Tiger Reserve Assistant Field Director P Tangha. DTOs of Roing, Tezu, Namsai and Changlang along with representatives of various tour and travel operators along with International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) joined the programme.
This event is a follow-up of the training programmes especially on rural tourism and home-stays carried over last six years which covered more than 65 villages across the state motivating and training local stakeholders in tourism. Recently, this was followed up by three review meetings of home-stay owners and eco-adventure guides and the current meet was meant for setting up of a common agenda with meaningful exchange between local stakeholders, Department of Tourism, Department of Forest, local government, local tour operators and NGOs involved in conservation  of tourism and rural development.
To make tourism accessible and sustainable for the development in truest sense, recommendations  such as extension of PAP office to Namsai for Eastern Region Tourism Circuit was made to the state government. The tour operators also urged that since Changlang DTO office is being proposed at Miao or Jairampur and Pangsau Pass being a part of the circuit, tourists should be allowed with the Pass without any further permit. Pangsau Pass Winter/International Festival has been recommended to be continued as a state event. It was proposed that Namdapha National Park must organize regular Elephant & Jeep safaris like that of Kaziranga and Orange Festival at Dambuk to be redesigned to include local stakeholders. Various other important suggestions were also made and certificates were distributed in presence of Miao ADC T Rumi and Tourism Assistant Director Bengia Manna Sonam. Dept of Tourism PR
