ITANAGAR, Jul 17: Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein on Friday through a videoconferencing reviewed the progress status regarding sharing of Optical Fibre Cable (OFC) between the Indian Army and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) which is meant for facilitating the extension of 3G internet services in the border areas of the state.
Expressing happiness over the work progress despite topographical and weather constraints, Mein lauded the Army-BSNL combined efforts and urged them to expedite the process for true realisation of the Digital India Mission in Arunachal Pradesh. While assuring full support from the state government, he also underscored the increasing importance of steady internet connectivity during the current Covid pandemic times and asked all the Deputy Commissioners to coordinate with the Army and BSNL authorities to expedite the implementation process. The ways and means for connecting the OFC from Chongkham to Tezu via Alubari Bridge and from Roing to Anini were also discussed.
General Officer, Commanding (HQ) 2 Mountain Division Dinjan, Major General Sanjiv Chauhan, AVSM assured to expedite the process and share updates with the GoAP from time to time. Commanding Officer, 2 Mountain Division Signal Regiment Colonel Milan Patnaik while updating the detailed status of the progress made so far informed that inclement weather and road blockades in some sectors have delayed progress of works. He also informed that the civil administration and state police can avail the Army V-Sat Services in remote areas like Kibithoo, Walong, Chaklagham and Anini for disaster management and other administrative needs.
