ITANAGAR, Jun 18: Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein on Thursday conducted a virtual meeting with various stakeholders of the Indian Army and BSNL regarding laying of Optical Fibre Cable (OFC) in remote areas of the state to facilitate 3G internet services.
Conducted through a videoconferencing mode, the meeting was attended by General Officer Commanding(HQ), 2 Mountain Division Dinjan Major General Sanjiv Chauhan, AVSM, Commissioner to Governor Ravindra Singh Yadav, Commanding Officer, 2 Mountain Division Signal Regiment Colonel Milan Patnaik and General Manager, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (AP) Arung Siram. Mein while lauding the Indian Army for their services to the state’s people said that due to difficult terrain, the state’s remote areas continue to suffer from poor road communication as well as internet services, underscoring also that the problem can be solved to a great extent if the Indian Army and BSNL work in tandem with each other.
He commended the efforts of both the Army and BSNL authorities for coming to an agreeable solution for laying of OFC and coverage of 3G internet services to the remote areas of Hailong, Walong, Chaglagham, Hawai, Kibithoo in Anjaw district, Anini in Dibang Valley district and Mechuka in Shi-Yomi district. “It will greatly help the District Administrations and the departments that need digital services during emergency and for updating digital data,” DCM said, assuring to extend all-possible support from the state government. He also thanked Governor Brig (Dr) B. D. Mishra (Retd.) for his initiative in this regard.
Meanwhile, Major General Chauhan said that in case of emergencies during the prevailing Covid-19 pandemic, the state’s civil administrations can use their VSAT for communication and informed that besides extension of 3G services to Namsai, Lohit and Anjaw districts, similar facilities will also be made available to Dibang Valley, Changlang, Longding and Tirap districts.
The BSNL GM while informing that smooth coordination between them and the Indian Army in laying OFC network in the state’s remote areas has been established, assured that BSNL will commission 3G services as soon as the details are shared by the Indian Army. DCM Media Cell
