GUWAHATI, Sep 12: Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein attended the 20th North Eastern Regional Power Committee (NERPC) Meeting here on Thursday and deliberated the needs and problems faced by the power sector of Arunachal Pradesh.
Arunachal got some good news from the meeting since the 132 KV double circuit transmission line from Roing-Chapakhowa (Assam) has been approved which will be the second injection point from North East Region Grid to Ranganadi Hydro Electric Project (RHEP)-Daporijo-Aalo-Pasighat-Roing-Tezu-Namsai. Besides this, the committee has also approved in principle (subject to clearance from North Eastern Regional Standing Committee on Transmission) the 220 KV double circuit transmission line from Kathalguri-Namsai which will be the third injection point from NER Grid and both these lines will further improve the reliability of grid and improve longer quantity drawal of power. DCM appealed the NERPC and Powergrid to expedite the process of early construction of 132 KV double circuit transmission line, as after completion, this transmission line will improve the reliability of grid system in the state.
Mein in his address informed that Arunachal has boundless natural endowments like enormous hydro power potential reserves which can make the Northeast a game changer in power sector industry in the country. He stated that due to various inherent socio-political and environment circumstances many of the projects under MOUs could not come up and a decision has been taken to terminate the MOUs signed with those power developers who are not performing with concentration on smaller projects preferably with Public Sector Utilities taking part. We are also sensitive to environment issues and therefore would be encouraging green and renewable energy, added Mein. For further improvement & reliability of state grid for uninterrupted power supply, DCM proposed interconnections of state grid with NER Grid at 132 KV Line from Silapathar (Assam) to Niglok (AP) via Jonai and 132 KV line from Basar (AP) to Silapathar (Assam) via Likabali. He said that Niglok has an Industrial Growth Centre and a Sainik School and an Indian Army Brigade Headquarter at few kilometres and power requirement is expected to grow exponentially once the Industrial Growth Centre starts functioning in full capacity. While deliberating on expediting the completion of the important projects in state, Mein said that all flagship programs of GoI towards providing 24x7 electricity to the citizens like DDUGVY, RADPRP, IPDS, SAUBHAGYA etc will be feasible only on achieving a high reliability of Grid System.
Mein said that Arunachal Pradesh is a late starter in development because of its history and difficult geopolitical circumstances and for modernising the transmission and distribution system a huge investment is required. NERPC, as regional mentor, can play a pivotal role to bring about a change in the state’s power sector by presenting the state in the correct perspective of the Indian power scenario, stated Mein. Commissioner Power G.S.Meena along with other senior officers from State Power Department attended the meeting which was chaired by Power Minister of Meghalaya, James Sangma. DCM Media Cell
