CHOWKHAM, Dec 18: Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein today inspected the Mora Tenga Micro Irrigation Project in Chowkham which caters to a Gross Command Area of 1400 hectares and a Culturable Command Area of 1200 hectares, the largest of its kind in the state.
Mein also surveyed the damaged intake point and channels caused due to siltation over the years since the project’s inception in 1981. For construction of a new intake point and for renovation of the damaged channels, the Water Resource Department, Namsai Division has submitted a proposal under Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana. The under-construction multi-purpose community hall at Chowkham which is spacious enough to house 3 badminton courts was also inspected by the DCM. “Once completed, the community hall will facilitate the youths of the area to engage themselves in indoor games which will also help them in keeping away from drugs and alcohol,” he said. Later, he visited Newlong Resort located on the river bank run by local entrepreneur Chow Shukawa Chowphoo and appreciated the employment opportunities it has created for local youths who have been engaged as Chefs.
Officials and public leaders of the area accompanied the DCM in the inspection tour. DCM Media Cell
