ITANAGAR, May 6: With the intention of finding out the way forward to lessen the economic hardships face by the state’s small traders and entrepreneurs caused due to the prevailing lengthy stretch of the nationwide lockdown, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein on Wednesday convened a meeting in his Secretariat Office with the executive members of Arunachal Chamber of Commerce & Industries (ACC&I), also attended by senior officers from the Departments of Finance, Planning & Investment and Agriculture.
Mein while elaborating on Covid-19 virus’s capacity to torment for a long period said day-to-day activities like office works, agriculture and industrial production etc. must continue with due adherence to social distancing and other norms/guidelines. Acknowledging that economy of the state’s small traders and entrepreneurs has been hit hard, he stressed on bringing an economic reform by optimum utilization of technology and innovative ideas. In this regard he emphasized on upscaling of agricultural and allied activities in order to overcome the distressing situation and make Arunachal Pradesh self-sufficient in food and vegetable through optimum utilization of its vast land resources. The DCM further felt that it is necessary to revive Arunachal Pradesh Marketing Corporation (APMC) for seamless marketing of farmers’ produce and regulate the supply of fruits and vegetables from districts to the Capital Region.
A Committee has been formed under chairmanship of the Principal Secretary (Finance) to look into the matter and find a feasible solution or policy in conformity with the Central rules, if any to respond to the existing difficult situation.
Secretary General (ACC&I) Toko Tatung while submitting a proposal to the state for having a ‘Covid-19 Working Capital GAP Funding for Business Enterprises’ as a relief measure said as the sector provides maximum employment to youths, state’s support will go a long way in tiding over the current crisis. He said such gesture will also greatly encourage the state’s youths to take up entrepreneurship in future.
Among others, Principal Secretary (Finance) AC Verma, Commissioner (Planning & Investment) PS Lokhande, Finance Secretary YW Ringu, Secretary (Planning & Investment) Himanshu Gupta, Secretary (Agriculture) Bidol Tayeng, Director (Agriculture) Anong Lego, Lead Bank Manager S Ranjit Singh and President ACC&I Tarh Nachung attended the meeting.
