ITANAGAR, Jan 21: Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein has asked for more active involvement by the officers and officials of the Power department in maximizing revenue collection through online payment of bills.
The DCM who also holds the Power portfolio said this while attending a review meeting today with the Commissioner and Chief Engineers of Power Department on the status of online payment of electricity bills where he was accompanied by the Adviser to Minister (Power) Balo Raja. While stating that the motto of launching the online payment system of electricity bills in 6 Restructure–Accelerated Power Development Reform Programme (R-APDRP) towns in the state is a part of the digital governance thrust, he urged the department to encourage consumers to avail SMS and E-Billing services for greater convenience. “All of us should strive for maximizing revenue collection through online mode,” Mein stressed.
Meanwhile, Executive Engineer of Capital Electrical Division Joram Lali through a PowerPoint Presentation informed that the Customer Care Centre (Contact Centre/Call Centre) has been operationalized since June 2020 for the electricity consumers of 6 R-APDRP towns namely Itanagar, Naharlagun, Pasighat, Roing, Tezu and Namsai and online payment of bills was launched on July 22, 2020. He further informed that the Customer Care Centre platform for the remaining 3 R-APDRP towns namely Ziro, Daporijo and Aalo will also be operationalized once the online payment platform is activated.
Deliberating on online convenience Lali informed that consumers of these 6 towns need not visit the Department’s offices for matters related to power supply, electricity bills, meter readings, billings etc. and they are availing the services by dialling the ‘1912’ Help Line Number. He also divulged that that development of the mobile app for online payment of electricity bills is on the verge of completion and will be launched in February next. 
Till the month of December 2020, the state’s Department of Power has earned a revenue of Rs 3,37,21,773 through online payment in 6 R-APDRP towns, out of which Rs 2,34,58,234 was through postpaid bills and Rs 1,02,63,539 through prepaid bills. DCM Media Cell
