CHAYANG TAJO, Feb 26: Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein today while gracing the 45th Nyokum Yullo Festival here has reiterated that state government is taking all possible measures to preserve and promote the rich cultural heritage of Arunachal Pradesh and its indigenous local dialects.
Terming the role of government as a participatory one with free flow of views from all stakeholders in development process ahead of State Budget 2020-21, Mein said both long and short term strategic plans have been initiated to bring overall transformational reforms. He assured that government will not tolerate corruption in any form and action would be initiated against all those involved.
Calling to inculcate a 'Team Arunachal' spirit, DCM said celebration of Nyokum Yullo festival is a good opportunity to come together and pass on the ethos and values of rich culture to the next generations. “Like all festivals of Arunachal Pradesh, Nyokum Yullo provides an opportunity to the members of the Nyishi community to display their unique cultural richness and traditional heritage,” he said, mentioning that indigenous festivals could go a long way in fostering brotherhood amongst different communities of the state.
“The Nyishis being one of the major communities of the state has the onus to shoulder responsibilities and act as an elderly brother for other communities,” stated Mein. Announcing that the Department of Indigenous Affairs would be further strengthened, he added that efforts of digital documentation of old traditional practices had been  taken up to preserve the rich documents of various tribes of the state. Indigenous local dialects as a third language in government schools had also been introduced, he said, underscoring government’s commitment to provide better platforms to the state’s talents in their respective fields. He called upon the younger generation to stay away from drugs in order to progress in life.
DCM said it is high time to impress upon the central government to help solve the issues and bring development in border areas of the state. “Something needs to be done seriously so that people stop migrating from border areas,” he commented. Mein also announced to develop the old hostel building of Vivekananda School and assured to provide a new hostel block and teachers’ quarters for the school at Chayang Tajo, the foundation of which was laid recently by Chief Minister and Union Minister of State (Independent Charge), Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports Kiren Rijiju. While announcing to develop the transmission and distribution lines for distribution of power from 2 x 100 KW Rapo MHS which will cover seven villages of the area, he asked the concerned department to submit the proposal at the earliest to him. He further lauded the efforts of the officers posted at  Chayang Tajo power department for electrifying 70 households at Pipu CO headquarters and en route villages recently from the state scheme and announced to provide a labour barrack at Chatang Tajo.
