PASIGHAT, Aug 5: The stretch of Mebo-Dhola road measuring around 500 meters which was washed away recently by the flooding Siang river between Namsing and Kongkul village was again eroded at Kesung Patang between Borguli and Seram village on Tuesday paralyzing normal vehicular communication.
It needs recalling that to stop the massive soil erosions the people of Seram, Kongkul, Borguli and Kiyit villages had undertaken several self-help flood protection measures. But the efforts have proved little effective in face of the marauding Siang waters. However, the PWD department is constructing an alternative temporary road from nearby the blocked point so that normal traffic is not disrupted. The alternative road is partly ready making it eligible for light vehicles and the same will be ready for heavy vehicles shortly, an official from the department informed.

Meanwhile, MLA 37th Pasighat West Ninong Ering who has been the two-time Lok Sabha MP and also been the  Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs under UPA regime has raised concern about a possible major flash flood like that of the infamous Chinese flood of 2000 or the flash flood of 2017 where the colour of Siang river turned completely muddy with an unusually high tide with change of course of the river which had also affected several villages on the left bank side. Ering had also cautioned the Central government to pay heed to the Siang issue opining that the Chinese government may use Siang as a major weapon to destroy large parts of the Northeast.
The people of the region, especially a committee named SEEANG, has been working on the Siang flood issue to save the people and also appealed to the state government to initiate a mega flood protection project
