ITANAGAR, Apr 1: The Capital District Administration in an order on Wednesday imposed a temporary ban on the sale of pork after reports of hundreds of pig deaths surfaced due to suspected swine fever over the past few weeks.
Health experts also suspect that they may have died from swine flu as sample examination indicated that the main cause of death is similar to those pigs affected by African Swine Fever (ASF).
Amid concerns, in an order issued on Wednesday, capital Deputy Commissioner, Komkar Dulom, instructed pig farmers, pigs and meat sellers to confine their pigs under safe custody and not allow them to loiter and scavenge around.
DC also instructed the owners not to throw the carcasses in rivers and dispose by burying them in deep pits or trenches.
"Failure to comply with this order will invite penal action strictly as per Prevention and Control of Pollution Act, 1974, Environment Protection Act 1986 and Section 188 of Indian Penal Code, " the order reads.
