ITANAGAR, Apr 8: The Indian Medical Association, Arunachal Unit (IMAAU) on Wednesday launched a campaign with the theme ‘Mask for All’, an initiative to encourage every citizen to wear homemade masks.
Announcing the launch of the campaign, IMAAU President, Lobsang Tsetim claimed that wearing a mask can drastically reduce transmission of the virus. Justifying the claims, he referred to documents prepared  by the Czech Republic and the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, one of the apex healthcare institutions in the US who suggested that wearing a mask could reduce infection chance up to 80 per cent. He also encouraged people to make their own facial coverings to ensure that surgical masks and high-end respirators are reserved only for the frontline medical staff. He further asserted that there is a shortage of masks for the healthcare professionals and opined that state government should conserve N-95 and other surgical masks only for them.
Also admitting that test kits and protective gear for the medical staff still remain acutely in short  supply, he appealed the innovators, weavers, tailors, SHGs, NGOs and like-minded citizens having the capacity to prepare homemade masks to help fight the pandemic.
IMAAU has also appealed the citizens  to support the state government/healthcare professionals/police to tide over the crisis.
