LONGDING, Jan 7: Martyred Rifleman Longdon Wangsu of the 16 Assam Rifles was laid to rest with full military honours at his native Niausa village today. 
Rifleman Longdon Wangsu was killed in the IED explosion which was carried out by militants in Thoubal district of Manipur on January 5.
During the solemn ceremony, Brig Vijay Chahar, Cdr 25 Sect Assam Rifles paid tribute to the brave soldier. In addition, dignitaries from the civil administration and thousands of villagers  gathered to bid farewell to the son of the soil.
The grief stricken family was offered all possible assistance and support from the Longding Battalion of Assam Rifles.
The Governor of Arunachal Pradesh Brig. (Dr.) B.D. Mishra (Retd.) has condoled the unfortunate demise of Rifleman Longdon Wangsu while on duty.
In his condolence letter to Chumki Wangsu, wife of late Rifleman Wangsu, the Governor said that in his death, the people of Arunachal Pradesh have lost a brave son and the Assam Rifles has lost a valiant combatant. His sacrifice in the line of duty will be an inspiration for the youth of the State to emulate, he said.
On this sad moment, I join the people of Arunachal Pradesh, particularly my Wancho brethren, in conveying my condolences to the bereaved family. We are in prayer for the eternal peace to the departed soul, the Governor in his letter.
