ITANAGAR, Feb 2: In an unfortunate incident on Tuesday afternoon at Chandranagar area an unknown person who was mistaken to be a child-lifter became a victim of public fury before being rescued by police.
When asked about the incident, SDPO, Itanagar K Sikom informed the said person is probably mentally unstable who could not disclose his identity. Before interrogation at the police station, we sent the person for a medical examination and the doctor has also confirmed that he is unable to respond. After much effort, he said with an unclear voice that he is from Gopalganj and identified himself as Labh Kumar. Moreover, he cannot even read and write anything, the SDPO said.
“When asked about the incident, the purported victim, a minor revealed that the unidentified person called her when she was on her way to meet her uncle. Later she informed the incident to her tuition teacher who further shared the information with the rent owner. This led to an increase of suspicion and when asked about his whereabouts, the person couldn't reply despite repeated queries. The public then caught hold of him assuming to be a child-lifter and thrashed him after tying his hands,” the SDPO informed.
It’s a clear case of mistaken identity, so we appealed to the public not to take law into their own hands and inform the police if they come across any suspicious person, the SDPO stated while informing that the said person will be handed over to a capital based NGO.
