KHONSA, Jun 9: District and Sessions Court, Khonsa today convicted a person u/s 302 of the IPC for the offence of murder and sentenced him to life imprisonment along with a fine.
The convict Harsingh Mura who was the Gaon Burah of Kherem Mura village, Bordumsa in Changlang district harboured the doubt that his wife late Bimla Mura had some illicit relationship with another person. Influenced deeply by the doubt, on the intervening night of January 7 and 8, 2016, Harisingh assaulted his wife with a wooden tool after an altercation followed by further assaults with a machete (local dao). This resulted in multiple fatal cut injuries on her face and head causing fracture of the skull leading to sub-dural and intra-cranial hematoma damage of the brain. Bimla died on the spot and Harsingh covered her body with a blanket and fled away from the house. Next morning the couple's daughter found the dead body of Bimla and an FIR was lodged by the son. Meanwhile, Harsingh absconded for about a month till he was arrested by the police. Inspector C. Longri of Bordumsa PS conducted the investigation and SI R. Borang subsequently submitted a chargesheet against Harsingh.
The judgement was pronounced today by District and Sessions Judge, Khonsa H. Kashyap in a virtual court sitting due to restrictive functioning of the court on account of the prevailing Covid situation. DIPRO
