KHONSA, Jul 30: In a historic judgment, District and Sessions Court, Khonsa, today convicted a man under Section 302 of Indian Penal Code for killing his wife and sentenced him to life imprisonment.
Accused Sanjit Murah had married the deceased Reshmi Murah, a married women who had a son and a minor daughter. It was alleged that the accused had forcefully raped the minor step daughter, who reported the matter to her mother, due to which there was quarrel between the two. On the fateful night when both the accused and deceased were under the influence of alcohol, argument took place over the incident during which the accused killed his wife by hitting her on the head with a brick causing internal haemorrhage.
The case was investigated by the then SI TC Dhimanand, SI Tangjong Langchin of Bordumsa Police Station. During investigation accused has confessed to his crime before Learned Magistrate Hengo Basar who has recorded the confessional statement.
On completion of the trial today, H. Kashyap District and Sessions Judge, Khonsa, convicted the accused Sanjit Murah for the offence of murder and he is sentenced for life imprisonment and a fine of Rs.10,000/- to be paid to the state of Arunachal Pradesh. The hearing of the case was conducted through Virtual Court using video conferencing due to the lockdown for Covid-19.
The victim's daughter became hostile during her examination as witness and offence U/S 376 IPC could not be proved by prosecution. DIPRO
