AALO, Apr 9: District & Sessions Court, Aalo has sentenced a man to 10-year rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs. 50,000 for committing the heinous crime of rape on his foster-daughter.
The convict M Bagra was held guilty of offences u/s 376(1) and 506 of the IPC during the hearing on March 16 last. Pronouncing the judgement today, District & Sessions judge Goto Mega observed that the court has felt that the convict’s unrestricted liberty and freedom will pose a threat to the safety and security of women in a civilized society and as such has considered it rational to confine him within the four walls of jail. This will not only instil confidence in the people in the rule of law but also enable the convict to reform himself, the judgement read. Explaining the gravity of the offence the judge said: “The convict has not only demolished the aspiration of the victim as a foster-daughter, but also snatched her desire to live in society with self-respect, dignity and without social stigma.” The convict was brought from the District Jail, Jully to allow him to participate in the hearing.
Karken Angu was the Public Prosecutor and Mini Bagra was the defendant’s counsel in the case. DIPRO
