Itanagar, Jan 3: A man was charred to death apparently in his sleep when the thatched house he was staying in caught fire and was burnt to ashes alongwith household properties.
The incident occurred at Koloriang, the headquarters of Kurung Kumey district on Sunday night, official sources said on Monday.
The man, in his 40’s, was sleeping alone when his dwelling near the Old PWD inspection bungalow (IB) at Koloriang was devastated, Kurung Kumey Deputy Commissioner Nighee Bengia said, adding that his body was found at the location of his bedroom.
The victim has been identified as Nangram Tache. Before the tragedy unfolded, the DC said, the man had reportedly taken local wine and had a quarrel with his wife, following which his spouse along with her kids went to the neighbour's place.
The fire is suspected to have originated from the hearth in the kitchen, he said, while adding that the exact reason for the blaze was not known yet.
The fire-affected family was provided with relief – both in the form of cash and kind, the DC said.
