BANDERDEWA, Oct 26: The capital police arrested one Ashudin Islam (24) with fake Indian currency amounting to Rupees Twenty Lakh from Banderdewa on Tuesday.   Accordingly, a case  30/2021 U/s 489b, 489c and 120b IPC has been registered.
Speaking to reporters, Superintendent of Police, Itanagar Capital Region(ICR)  Jimmy Chiram said that police received information from an NGO (Indigenous Movement against Corruption and Reformation) about fake currency being circulated at Banderdewa on October 22 last.
Subsequently a team of Banderdewa police along with the NGO volunteers, under close supervision of SDPO Naharlagun, Dekio Gumja arrested Ashudin Islam and recovered 40 bundles of fake Indian currency of Rs.500 denomination totalling 20 lakhs from his possession. The seizure has been made in presence of independent witnesses, he added.
“The accused was arrested when he arrived at Banderdewa along with one Rashidul Islam and Ramzan Ali to hand over the fake currency to a woman in exchange of Rupees Six Iakh original currency,” he said. Though, Ashudin Islam was arrested on the spot, the other two managed to escape, he added.

Chiram said that the modus operandi of the crime is to contact people through social media and lure them to get double, even triple the money for any amount.
Few other names have come out during the investigation and the police is working to arrest them. Further, the SP appealed to the public to inform the police if any such calls or messages are being shared to anyone.
