PASIGHAT Apr 7:  An elderly man working as Chowkidar under Field Publicity Office, Pasighat, one Tai Riyang, 60, hailing from Berung village, near Pasighat have been arrested for raping a minor girl of 11 years following an FIR lodged by the parents of the victim.

According to the family source of the victim, accused Tai Riyang who is a neighbour of the victim took her in forcibly and forced her to massage him then raped her. To keep her silent, he then gave her a Rs. 500 note, but the girl narrated the story to her mother after which an FIR was lodged on Thursday and accused Riyang was arrested from Berung village vide Pasighat PS Case No. 52/2017 U/S 376(2)(i) IPC R/W Section 6 of POCSO Act. Accused Riyang, committed the offense after his own daughter who is a friend of the victim went to the market, parents of the victim quoted.

Meanwhile, family members and activists of Women Against Social Evils (WASE), Perme Kening Welfare Society, All Bogong Students’ Union (E) and Pasighat Block Kepang Erang Kebang have demanded stringent punishment to the accused and also appealed the district administration and police not to grant bail to him.   WASE Gen. Secy. Joya Tasung Moyong informed that, they have written to DC, Pasighat appealing not to grant bail to such person failing which it would initiate a mass movement against the administration and police. Investigating Officer of the case M. Yanya couldn't be contacted for her official comment.
