SIT notched success after constant tracking; contraband worth Rs 53 lakh seized

ITANAGAR, Mar 4: In a major success against the evil axis of organised drug trafficking and extortion rackets prevalent on the Arunachal-Assam border, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has arrested Jiten Biswas (33), the dreaded drug mafia and extortionist and his accomplice Uttam Nath (27) from Kimin on Wednesday.
This was informed by Superintendent of Police, SIT Rohit Rajbir Singh. The SP further divulged that 269 gms of heroin worth Rs 53 lakh, cash amounting to Rs 6.4 lakh, Chinese currency worth 569 Yuan, a laptop,  four mobile phones, one DVR, a cash counting machine, one  Hyundai-120 car bearing registration No. AS-07 M8922 had been seized from the possession of the accused duo. An FIR (No.01/2021 U/S 22©/27(a)/27-A under NDPS Act) has been registered at PS Crime Branch and further investigation is on. Giving the details of the operation, the SP revealed that the SIT was on alert and tracking the movements of Jiten, who hails from Parwatipur, North Lakhimpur district, Assam since the last couple of months. In the month of February, the SIT team started working on secret intelligence inputs regarding the movements of the drug mafia. A plan was drawn by SP-SIT and OC-SIT Inspector Ngilyang Lali and multiple teams were deployed for the operation. On Wednesday, the team besides arresting the kingpin, also managed to get hold of Uttam, who hails from Assam’s Jajpur village in Biswanath district.
When asked about the involvement of local peddlers, the SP said that as of now the focus is on the kingpin, however, an investigation will also be launched to nab the local peddlers, if any. “They are basically based in Assam but have to move with huge quantities of contraband substances to supply in Arunachal and both camped in Kimin area of Papum Pare district for the purpose,” the SP added.
He further informed that accused Jiten was also involved in similar cases bearing FIR No.33/2014, 87 IPC at Banderdewa PS and another one having No. 455/2016, 22 under NDPS Act at Bihupuria PS.
