ZIRO, Sep 15: The Swachhata Hi Seva campaign, as part of Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav was launched  by Deputy Commissioner Somcha Lowang at Hong village today.
This  campaign  under PHED will witness various activities  initiated to intensify the implementation of Swachch Bharat Mission ,Gramin-II components for declaring villages as Open Defecation Free plus villages.
Flagging off the campaign, the DC exhorted all the PRI members, youth leaders , Gaon Buras and Gaon buris to join hands in making the campaign a success. Calling for imbibing civic sense she added," Without civic sense any cleanliness program of the government will not be successful. It is the responsibility of every individual to keep one's surroundings clean. The Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India has decided to organise "Satyagraha se Swachchagrah rath yatra " from September 15 to October 2 next and Swachchta hi Seva launched today will kick start the campaign.

 "As a part of the campaign all the Gram Panchayats will have to pass a resolution to ban usage of single use plastics as a part of the campaign on 20th September. The PRI members will also initiate measures to restrict the use of plastic. The Swachhata fortnight will culminate on 2nd October with the celebration of Swachh Bharat Diwas,” Executive Engineer Nich Raja said.
To be declared as  ODF plus Model villages they will have to fulfill criteria such as functional toilet facilities in all households, schools, Anganwadi centers and Panchayat ghats and that at least 80% households, and all schools, Anganwadis, panchayat ghars should have arrangement for managing biodegradable waste and liquid waste.
"The villages with more than 100 households should have community Sanitary Complex and all public places in the villages should be litter free with minimal stagnant water and no plastic dumps", the EE further informed.
"Hong -I, Hong -II, Hija-I, Possa and Yazali township will be ODF plus target villages in the first phase," he further added while urging the PRI members to coordinate with the department in attaining the ODF Plus status.
